Brian Harder
Director of Finance

Brian Harder was appointed Director of Finance of the Shelby County Criminal Court Clerk’s Office in September 2018. He currently holds a CPA license and is a Certified County Finance Officer. Brian is also a member of the Governmental Committee for the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA), a member of the Special Review Executive Committee for the national Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), and is an active member in the Tennessee Chapter of the GFOA.

Brian came to the Criminal Court Clerk’s Office after working for Shelby County Government in the Finance Department for the previous 15 years. He was Finance Manager for six and a half years before being promoted to Controller for his last four years in the Finance Department. In that capacity, he oversaw the production of the County’s Annual Consolidated Financial Report, the comprehensive financial statements and budgetary comparisons for all funds and departments of the County. 

Before working for Shelby County Government, Brian spent some time living in Seattle, Washington, working for a regional CPA firm preparing financial statements for small businesses and participating in audits of not-for-profits. He then moved to Arizona where he obtained his CPA license and started work for a Scottsdale accounting firm specializing in individual and corporate income taxes, tax planning, and continuing audit work on small not-for-profits.

Brian is originally from Memphis and an alumnus of Christian Brothers University, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He also earned a Bachelor of Communications and Performing Arts degree from Christian Brothers College. During that time, he also had the distinction of being in the first iteration of Blind Mississippi Morris’ backing band when they were first getting started on Beale Street.
