Lawrence Denton, Jr., is the Administrator of Shelby County Government Criminal Court Clerk’s Office, 30th Judicial District.

Before being appointed as Administrator, Lawrence worked as the Director of Operations in Shelby County Government Criminal Court Clerk’s Office, where he continues to be responsible for the supervision and coordination of all sections of the Operations division. The Operations division provides core functions of the Clerk’s Office and is divided into ten sections.  Since his appointment in September 2018, Lawrence has been instrumental in bringing accountability, organization, and a high level of efficiency to the department.

Prior to joining the Administrative team in the Criminal Court Clerk’s Office, Lawrence was a Supervisor in Shelby County Government Pretrial Services where he worked for 20 years. He assisted the Department with implementation of many programs such as the Day Reporting Center, Intensive Supervision, and Global Positioning System (GPS). All of these programs aid Shelby County Government General Sessions & Criminal Courts Judiciary with making decisions to release justice involved individuals from incarceration. The programs were designed to offer life skills and support services that give the participants an alternative to incarceration while working to break the repetitive cycle of crime.  

Lawrence earned his B.S. degree in 1998 from the University of Tennessee Martin, with a major in Criminal Justice and minor in Sociology. He played percussion in the marching band in college and is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated.

Lawrence lives in Memphis, Tennessee, where he and his wife of 21 years have raised their son and daughter. In his free time, Lawrence enjoys time with family, fishing, playing poker, and riding mountain bikes.
